At ING Direct corporate responsibility is at the very heart of our business and we work hard to ensure that we continue to operate in a socially and environmentally acceptable way as outlined below:
ING Direct aims to work in a social, ethical and environmentally responsible way. We take care to build good relationships with employees, suppliers and the local community.
To ensure the environmental impacts of our business are taken into consideration, we participate in a recycling scheme and our staff have launched a car-share venture to help cut pollution.
On 1 September 2006 we launched an initiative with The Carbon Neutral Company to ensure that the print production of our marketing material is environmentally friendly. Carbon Neutral is a UK based organisation which helps businesses fully understand the opportunities, as well as the risks, presented by carbon emissions. We are therefore working with our printers; Charterhouse IPS and DST International Output and The Carbon Neutral Company to neutralise the CO2 emissions produced as a result of our marketing related print production. This will be done by contributing an amount equivalent to the cost associated with offsetting the CO2 emissions and using this to fund reforestation projects in Devon and North Wales.
ING has created a global community development plan, which all ING business units are supporting, focusing on giving children around the world greater access to education.
This initiative is called 'ING Chances for Children' – to find out more you can visit the website on www.ingchancesforchildren.com
As part of this initiative, ING has teamed up with UNICEF (the children's fund of the United Nations) to raise funds to get over 100,000 children into primary education by the end of 2007.
In 2007 ING Direct is aiming to contribute to this UNICEF initiative by getting one child into primary education for a year per employee. The cost of doing this is about £20 per child per year. So our staff are undertaking a range of innovative and exciting fundraising initiatives to help us achieve this target.
