Mobile security

Providing you with a safe and secure banking experience

This area has been designed to answer any concerns that you may have around the security of mobile banking.

You can do your internet and mobile banking with ING Direct with confidence, knowing that ING Direct uses the most up-to-date encryption and cutting edge security features available.

All information you share with us is held in the strictest confidence. You are the only one who can access your account or verify a transaction, using your Customer Number, unique Personal Identification Number (PIN) and Memorable Date. When you make a withdrawal, your money can be transferred only to your linked bank/current account.

Keep your Mobile Phone safe and secure
Whenever you access your ING Direct account via the mobile website, mobile application or the full website, you will be asked for your Customer Number, Partial PIN and full Memorable Date in exactly the same way as you are used to.

To further ensure that no one else can gain access to your account or your personal information, we also suggest that you enable security on your mobile device.

Setting a Phone PIN and enabling automatic lock will help ensure that if your phone is ever lost or stolen, the content is protected.

Keep your logon details safe and secure
Your PIN and memorable date are the keys to your account. Never, give them to anyone else or include them in an e-mail. Remember that protecting your security details is your responsibility.

We will only ask you for your full PIN when you set or change your PIN online or via our telephone banking service. Other than this specific scenario our internet, telephone and mobile banking services will only ever ask for 3 random digits from your PIN number.

Remember: We will always ask you to use our unique secure keypad tool (never via the keyboard) to enter your Partial PIN and Memorable Date. We will never ask you to provide your full PIN.

Stay Safe and be aware of fraudsters and their tricks
Trojans: Fraudsters create malicious software which is designed to manipulate the activities happening on your computer, once infected, everything you enter or even see can be manipulated or captured. This includes asking you to enter your full PIN or providing additional information which they use to attempt to gain access to your accounts.

We suggest that all of our customers utilise up to date Antivirus, Antispyware and personal firewall software to help prevent this from happening.

If you notice anything different when logging into your account online, immediately stop using the service and contact us and we will be happy to check that your computer is displaying the correct information and has not been maliciously changed.

Scams: Fraudsters create authentic looking, but false or "spoof" emails, letters or websites. Their purpose is to tempt individuals into giving money to the fraudsters. Some of these scams take the form of offering you something, such as a large sum of money. The catch is that they then ask for an amount of money upfront, in order for you to receive the larger sum. ING Direct will never send letters or emails offering large sums of money in this way. If you receive any such request, then do not respond and contact us immediately.

Phishing: Fraudsters create authentic looking, but false or "spoof" websites. Their purpose is to tempt customers to enter personal information. This information will be re-used to try and access your bank accounts.

Fraudulent Emails: We will never send you an e-mail asking for your confidential or personal security information, or e-mails containing a link which will then ask for such information. If you receive any such request do not act on the instructions given in the e-mail and contact us immediately.
